Ashleigh's First Ride

There’s always something special about that first snowmobile ride. It wasn’t until high school that Minnesota native Ashleigh Abner discovered her passion for snowmobiling.

She noticed that along with drivers’ licenses and hand-me-down Volvo’s her classmates were also finding freedom on the trails and in the backcountry with their sleds. She knew she wanted in.

For her 16th birthday, Abner bought herself her very first sled – a 2010 bright yellow Ski-Doo MXZ 600. It didn’t take long for that passion to take full flight as she started her Sled Girlz Riding Company. Her mission: Empower female riders in a male-dominated sport. And she’s been absolutely crushing it. Along with snowmobile apparel for women, part of Sled Girlz’s mission is creating a community of female riders that encourages and provides a comfortable place for women to grow and learn the sport of snowmobiling together.

Abner points to the fact that snowmobiling is a sport that can be enjoyed and embraced by everyone. Whether you’re a trail rider or enjoy the deep snow in the backcountry, Mother Nature’s winter beauty is astounding. Add to that the places, people and lifetime of memories and you’ve got the perfect recipe for a lifelong addiction.

When asked what advice she had for new riders to the sport, the first thing from her lips was to join a riding clinic. Practice, practice, practice and never stop learning. After a decade of riding snowmobiles, her only wish is that she had discovered That Ski-Doo Feeling sooner.
